Exhibition Dates: June 14 – July 21, 2007
The gallery is pleased to announce its representation of the Estate of Richard Harrington (Born 1911, Hamburg, Germany – Died 2005, Toronto, Canada) and our first exhibition of his work.
Harrington’s career as a writer, journalist and photographer spanned over forty years, during which time he visited over 120 countries. He is perhaps best known for his photographs of the Canadian arctic taken during numerous trips by dog-sled between 1948 and 1953. In particular, it was his 1950 visit to Padlei (on the west shore of Hudson Bay) where he witnessed the starvation of the Padleimiut affected by changing caribou migration patterns, which brought his work to international attention.
