The CONTACT Photobook Fair brings together more than 20 independent publishers and leading contemporary photographers to present newly released publications. The fair offers a number of book signings, an exhibition by the Toronto Photobook Library, and the opportunity for emerging photographers to present their projects at the Book Dummy Sessions. This event was conceived with the desire to create a space for practitioners and book enthusiasts to build connections, discover new projects, and exchange ideas on books and photography.
Local and international publishers include Ahorn Books (Berlin), Archive of Modern Conflict (London), Anchorless Press(Toronto), Aperture Books (New York), Bywater Bros. (Port Colborne), JMS Press (Toronto), J&L Books (New York), Les Éditions du renard (Montreal), Mörel Books (London), Spaces Corners (Pittsburgh), and TBW Books (Oakland); with book signings by Robert Burley, Bertrand Carrière, Debra Friedman, Naomi Harris, Ruth Kaplan, Charles-Frédérick Ouellet, Cristian Ordóñez, Louie Palu, Dietmar Riemann, Guillaume Simoneau, and Donald Weber.
Artists who are in the advanced stages of developing a photobook are welcome to have their work seen by a publisher or photographer featured in the fair at the Book Dummy Sessions. Through casual meetings, individuals will receive conceptual and practical insight into their projects. Due to overwhelming response we are currently at capacity for the Book Dummy Sessions; thank you for your interest.
Established by photographer Zackery Hobler, the Toronto Photobook Library creates temporary reading rooms to engage with a curated selection of photobooks. The theme for this iteration, Big and Small, points to the vast scale on which the medium spans from small-run, self-published books to genre-defining anthologies.
Supported by the Consulate General of the United States, Toronto, and Vistek.
