Legacy of Love is an intimate exploration of my Greek and Macedonian heritage, delving into the profound impact my grandparents have had on shaping my identity as a second-generation Canadian. This series is not merely a documentation of their physical environment, it is a visual journey honouring the cultural legacy my grandparents’ have cultivated in Canada. Rooted in a deep connection to the traditions, history, and customs passed down through generations, this series unfolds within the comforting confines of my grandparents’ Canadian home - a space where the warmth of their Mediterranean culture thrives. Through this visual narrative, I aim to honour their legacy while capturing the enduring impact of their culture. This narrative focuses on the cherished objects that serve as tangible expressions of their rich cultural identity. From the clay sculptures carefully crafted by my grandpa, to the intricately woven needlepoint tapestries adorning the living room walls, each artifact serves as a tangible link to their past. These cherished objects stand as a testament to the richness of their culture and traditions, which have proudly shaped their lives while in Canada.

Legacy of Love is more than a visual documentation; it is a celebration of resilience, love, and cultural richness. It honours the enduring legacy of my grandparents’ Greek and Macedonian roots while emphasizing the importance that a sense of place and cultural tradition can have in shaping one’s life. Through this series, I inherit not only tangible artifacts, but also the intangible essence of their culture, ensuring that their legacy lives on.
